Building websites

LayING the groundwork for your site

In this digital age, if you want your customers to choose your company, you need to be found online — meaning you need a website. A good website will give you more leads and prospects, increase sales, enhance your professional brand, and improve your customer service. Below are the 4 main steps we under in order to design and launch your website

STEP 1
Your website brief

About your business

Before we start, we need to have a good understanding of what your business is all about. Our discussions will cover your business’s history, size, location, etc. In addition, we look at your current branding, that is your logo, colour schemes, font styles, tone of voice, and more.

If you do not have a strong brand image, we can help you create one and make sure it’s consistent throughout your online presence.

Your products and services

It’s a good idea for your website to focus on your popular and/or new products/services. These would be:

  • The products/services your clients need most long term.
  • The products/services that give the highest return on investment

We will formulate a strategy to showcase the best attributes of these products/services

Target audience

We need to know more about the type of people you would like to attract to your website. In other words, you will tell us what your ideal client looks like. This will help us design a website geared towards those exact people.

If you already have an old website, we will chat about which parts you want to retain, what works for your clients and what doesn’t.

Website goals

What are your overall aims of the new site?
These could be to generate leads and enquiries, or increase sales and visits to your business, or encourage online bookings.

At a more advanced level, you may also want to gather email addresses to be used in future email marketing campaigns, allow clients to register as members and pay subscription fees, and sell products online using an e-commerce function.

Competitors and other websites you like

We will chat about your main competitors. This is so that we can look at what they’re doing right and what they’re possibly doing wrong. Thereafter, by looking at websites you like, we will have a better idea about your preference on the look and feel of your new website. This will include basic layout, colour schemes, typography, photography, and unique tools or features.

Content, images and keywords

We will chat about whether you will be providing the content for the website. Alternatively, we can write the content using your businesses tone of voice. We will also chat about what photography, illustrations or graphics are currently available?

In addition, to ensure the success of your website, we will discuss the keywords to use for on-page search engine optimisation.

STEP 2

Writing the content

The next step is to craft your message. We write content that is current, easy to read, adaptable and interactive. Words used on a site are crucial to its success – your website has a few seconds to capture a user’s interest amongst millions of other sites.

Homepage
For many visitors, your Homepage is the main point of entry into your website. Its main purpose is to engage your viewer—to learn more about you, understand what you offer, and inspire action. It is a general overview of your business which starts off with a simple statement about what you do. Or, you can pose a question to the viewer that makes them feel like they are in the right place and that you understand their needs.

Services page
The Services page is where you list what you do. We will help you break your content into short, digestible chunks of information with bulleted or numbered lists. This will make sure the information is easily consumed and is great for strong Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

Contact page
This page is probably the easiest one to write. It is simply how you want people to contact you. By using a contact form, your viewers don’t have to click away from your site.

Other pages
These pages depend on your type of business. For example, we can add a page showcasing your portfolio, case studies, samples, etc. You can also have a Blog page or an e-commerce page where you can order and pay for your products online.

STEP 3

Launching your website

The next step is to launch your website and spread the word. We can assist you with this by sending emails to your database and posting the news on social media.

STEP 4

Setting up analytics

Once your website is launched, you’re going to want to know how it is performing. If required, we can set up analytics to allow us to evaluate your site and continually improve it over time as we will know what works and what doesn’t work.

We use WordPress.org to build our websites. WordPress is the world’s most popular website building platform. According to the latest data, WordPress controls nearly 60% of the CMS market. What’s even more impressive, is that nearly 30% of all websites run on WordPress.

WordPress gives us complete control on every aspect of our website building. In addition, it can be used to build any kind of website. For example, from a small business website to an e-commerce store, community forum, social network, membership website, and more.

Due to its robust features, many of the top brands use WordPress to power their websites including Time Magazine, Facebook, The New Yorker, Sony, Disney, Target, and South African sites Kaya FM 95.9, Vital, SA Breaking News and You Magazine.

Website hosting

We make use of Hostify.co.za to host our client’s websites. All hosting services are instantly activated. That means your website can be set up in minutes.

The hosting fees start of at R59 per month for small businesses. Hostify’s packages include free domain registration and 25 – 100 email addresses depending on the package.

Switching from another host? Hostify has a dedicated migrations team to transfer your existing content from your prior host and configure it to perform optimally on our platform. Hostify also transfers domain registrations from other registrars. SSL Certificates are available at no cost.
